Typically splashed across vacant blocks, city walls and forgotten urban spaces – Linus Dean has now transported street art to his luxurious hand loomed rugs.
March 15th, 2016
In a vibrant collaboration with a roster of international street art heavy weights, Dean has created a new series of rugs titled Co.lab88, which fuses the work of world renowned artists with traditional Nepalese craftsmanship.
Crafted by weavers in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal, Linus Dean rug ware is ethically made using the finest quality Himalayan wool and traditional techniques. Award wining designer Dean transitioned from the world of advertising to home interiors, honing his appreciation for both high style and the traditional art of weaving. From wool herding, carding, spinning, dyeing, weaving and stretching – the process is intricate, artisanal and steeped in rich history and tradition.
For Co.lab88 Dean has enlisted eight artists, including the likes of Graphic Surgery’s Erris Huigens and Gysbert Zijlstra, Brooklyn based Hellbent, Dutch artist Jeoren Erosie and Austria’s Knarf. Australian graffiti artist Numskull has lent snippets of his text-rich, graphic style, while Las Vegas based Begson’s is a cut and paste collage of comic book phrase work. The result is an exciting blurring of old world production methods with contemporary vision.
Rugs are available in both 100% silk and 100% wool, in custom dimensions. Each is a limited edition of 50, but Dean intends to extend the collaboration, asking artists to join the Co.lab88 collection periodically.
