Where do you do your best work?
May 16th, 2016
The borderlines of the modern workspace are more fluid than ever before. Technology allows us to work from anywhere and at anytime – an email exchange via smart phone in your favourite café, a conference call mid flight, or meeting a deadline at midnight in a hotel lobby. As the boundaries between work and life blur, how does design follow suit?
Arper’s concept of the Anytime Office is built from this new way of working – the idea that work no longer exists in one place at one time, and today, we work when we need to, in spaces where we want to be. To better understand the trend, and to create their latest furniture collections, the Italian design house investigated offices and work styles all around the world, and spoke to professionals across a variety of industries and fields.
“My work takes me all over the world. When I’m traveling, a hotel lobby or café where I can sit for a moment and catch up on emails can be just what I need.” – Patrice, Magazine Editor.
Arper also believes we need spaces for quiet, individual contemplation as well as spaces for group collaboration – privacy when we want it and public interaction when our work demands it.
“It is wonderful to feel like the values I have are not only reflected in the company I work for, but in our office environment, too. Our open floor plan and adaptable furniture makes communication with other team members flexible and easy — we have seating options for individual concentration and then collaborative discussion.” – Maria, Eneco Sales Representative.
Most of all, workspaces should reflect our individuality, match our ambitions and align with our sensibilities and desires – perhaps in the same way we would imagine our perfect home.
“When I travel, I need a space where I can work and meet with clients. With a group of people and all of our computers, it can be a challenge to find a space that is large enough to accommodate a group and that has all of the amenities of an office when you’re abroad.” – Stephen, Principal Architect.
