SEAM 2009 sews architecture, dance and film together in new dialogue and creative exchanges.

Architecture, dance and film are not typically connected professions. Yet all are major parts of Sydney’s creative industries and identity. Re-defining the seams between the three disciplines and exploring spatial ideas of opportunity and the body is SEAM 2009: Spatial Phrases.

The inaugural cultural event will present to Sydney's creatives a fusion of architecture, dance and film, hosted by the partnership of Critical Path and the University of Technology, Sydney’s Centre for Contemporary Design Practice.

With some intriguing connections both theoretically and in practice between disciplines, pushing the boundaries is creating new conversation, new processes and new thinking.

Internationally acclaimed philosopher Brian Massumi is appearing in SEAM 2009 alongside Erin Manning. Their project, the ‘sense lab’ explores the intersection between art practice and philosophy through the matrix of sensing movement and body.

‘There are some incredibly exciting projects currently being developed between disciplines, making it extremely timely that SEAM 2009 brings this topical issue to Sydneysiders,’ says UTS Lecturer Dr Sam Spurr, Co-director of SEAM.

‘The aim is to start a dialogue that we hope will inspire not only industry professionals and academics but anybody interested in these creative fields,’ she says.

Across Symposia, exhibition and several workshops, SEAM 2009 will run form 7 – 20 September.
