Sydney is one of four cities globally to take an official stance on the recognition of the industry. Many other countries have committed to a proclamation, but Sydney has joined New York, Kobe and Montreal in an official declaration.

This is a highly progressive move by the Lord Mayor, one that endeavours to shape the practice of interior design, shifting its focus to enhance our built environment in support of humanity, society and culture.

Internationally acclaimed Urban and Interior Designer and President of the IFI, Shashi Caan flew in from New York yesterday to present the declaration to 50 of Australia’s leading designers and educators. The presentation was the made during a Global Symposium held at the University of NSW, the first of its kind in Australia.
