The NGV Architecture Commission asks architects and designers to consider innovative ways to activate the Grollo Equiset Garden with an evocative and thought-provoking work of temporary architecture.

The Competition is a two-stage design competition where Stage One calls for high-level design proposals, of which up to five are chosen to proceed to a paid Stage Two – which will be judged in early April 2016, with the winning concept being completed and constructed for October 2016.

The judging panel worked through 93 entries to identify 5 shortlisted practices.

Shortlisted Practices

M@Studio (Melbourne)
March Studio (Melbourne)
Nervegna Reed Architecture (Melbourne)
Other Architects/otherothers (Sydney)
Thomas Winwood Architecture (Melbourne)

Jury

Corbett Lyon, Director, Lyons Architects and NGV Trustee (Chair) (VIC)
Rachel Neeson, Director, Neeson Murcutt Architects (NSW)
Emma Williamson, Practice Director, CODA (WA)
Fleur Watson, Curator, RMIT Design Hub (VIC)

Of particular merit the Jury would like to acknowledge the quality of the five shortlisted submissions, which represent a rich and varied collection of design propositions. In very different ways each demonstrates playfulness and invention, generously inviting the public’s interaction. These submissions will now move forward to Stage Two, where their initial design propositions will be further developed, tested and refined.
