Danish furniture brand Montana and retailer P5 Studio present the shortlisted design practices for the inaugural edition of Freeplay design competition. Here’s a preview!
December 26th, 2018
“People want the freedom to create and design their own space at home and at work – and change it when the need arises,” says Peter Lassen, founder for Danish furniture brand Montana. It was for this reason that Montana created its signature modular storage system.
This year, Montana and its Singapore retailer P5 Studio partnered up to launch Freeplay, an annual design initiative and competition to promote local design talents. Earlier this year, Freeplay sent out invitations for Singapore-based architectural and design practices to submit a design proposal for a product that caters to the aforementioned need for versatility. The design must use Montana’s 36 modules, which available in four depths and 42 colours – lending to virtually limitless possibilities.
And we’ve got a total of eight names in our shortlists. Here they are (and their sketches) in alphabetical order:

These eight designs will be officially launched at the Freeplay event in January 2019 and make up the Montana SG Collection, which will be exclusively retailed at P5 Studio.
The winning design, which will be selected by Montana’s Denmark Headquarters, will be featured at 3daysofdesign, one of Denmark’s most important annual design events in 2020 with Freeplay competition winners from other countries.
The regional winning product at 3daysofdesgn will be added to Montana’s international collection.
