#1 Inside The New Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall

#2 The Singapore Sports Hub
Last year, the Singapore Sports Hub beat six other projects from around the world to take home the Future Projects Award (Leisure-led Development category) at the World Architecture Festival, which doubtlessly heightened the anticipation that had been growing since the $1.33-billion-dollar development’s free spanning dome structure – the world’s largest at 312 metres – started taking shape.
While the Singapore Sports Hub officially opens in 2015, various programmes have already taken off at the new National Stadium. Read more.
#3 Shigeru Ban Named 2014 Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureate
While the architecture discipline often celebrates iconic structures that put their stamp in cities around world, the prestigious Pritzker Prize this year has chosen to recognise a man that’s perhaps best known for erecting temporary structures made out of humble and impermanent materials such as paper tubes. #4 Tan Kok Hiang Named President’s Design Award “Designer of the Year”
With a philosophical take on architecture, this year’s President’s Design Award “Designer of the Year” Tan Kok Hiang looks back on a practice spanning decades, and recalls exceptional moments of encounter and beauty that fuel the emotional aspect of his calling. Read more.
#5 d’Leedon By Zaha Hadid
Conceived from a study of existing energy flow lines and connections on its expansive 840,049 square feet site, d’Leedon, Zaha Hadid’s first high-rise residential mega project (in collaboration with RSP Architects), stands out from its low key surroundings in Tanglin District 10 with a soaring presence and undulating contour lines that shift and change with their ascent into the sky. #6 Singapore Indesign 2014
The 3rd edition of Singapore Indesign was without a doubt the most significant yet. Here were some of the special moments that got your attention – the Dhoby Ghaut/Bras Basah precinct, the River Valley precinct, the Tanjong Pagar precinct and The Project.
#7 Tadao Ando In Film
Tadao Ando – From Emptiness To Infinity interviews and observes Tadao Ando at work, documenting the Pritzker laureate’s motivations and thinking behind his architecture into an enjoyable cinematic portraiture. Read more.
#8 Milan Furniture Fair 2014
The Indesign team was out in force on the grounds of the Milan Furniture Fair this year. Here’s part of our report – from Rho Fiera and Ventura Lambrate. And for the first time, Indesign TV was there to capture design’s biggest event, as it happened.
#9 Vietnam Project Wins World Building Of The Year At WAF
The Chapel, designed by a21studio, was named “World Building of the Year” at the WAF awards. That the top prize at the 7th World Architecture Festival (WAF) has gone to a project in Vietnam is indicative of the promising architecture coming out of the emerging Southeast Asian economy. Read more.
#10 Floating Hawker Centres Powered by the Sun
Spark dreams up a future scenario for Singapore – one where self-sustaining hawker centres will float on water, drawing all the energy they need from the sun.
While it is anyone’s guess at this point if the Solar Orchids will ever get built, [Stephen] Pimbley [Director of Spark] makes the suggestion that the project would be a great way to mark Singapore’s 50th year of independence in 2015. And so we wait… Read more.
