The top projects from the region and their firms were recognised recently at the prestigious Asia Pacific Property Awards and Asia Pacific Hotel Awards 2011 held in Shanghai.
Among them, HASSELL took home 5 awards. Here, indesignlive.asia takes a closer look at some of them!
Alibaba Headquarters, Highly Commended, Office Architecture China
The Alibaba Headquarters in Hangzhou offers 150,000 sqm of flexible open-plan office space within a campus style layout and accommodates approximately 9,000 employees.
Based on the concept of connectivity, clarity and community, the layout sees a central open space surrounded by a cluster of buildings or ’neighbourhoods’.

Hubs, internal and external streets, bridges, roof terraces and strategically placed destination points contribute to the collaborative nature of the workplace. Buildings, floorplates and facades have been designed to maximise access to natural light and air flow to all workstations.

The Hangzhou context is incorporated via garden networks as well as sunshading screens that represent Chinese ice-pattern window screens – prominent features in the city’s historical gardens.
PTTEP Headquarters, Five Star Award, Best Office Interior Thailand
The newly consolidated location for Thailand’s national petroleum exploration company, PTTEP, covers 18 floors in the recently completed ENCO building in Bangkok.
The 45,000 sqm open-plan workplace is configured around a new internal stairway that provides a physical and visual link across all 18 floors. Breakout and hub spaces, situated adjacent to stair landings, encourage staff interaction and promote visual connection between departments.

The colour scheme for the interiors takes inspiration from the gas flame associated with oil exploration and production. The palette follows the gradation of colour in the flame, which is key in linking the vertical spaces; the stair and floor group colour coding changes from green, to blue, light blue, yellow and red as it rises up the building. At night this element becomes a highly visible external statement.
Two landscaped external roof decks provide additional space for staff recreation and other corporate activities.

Radisson Suites Bangkok Sukhumvit, Highly Commended, Hotel Interior Thailand
Located in the heart of Bangkok city, the hotel is the result of a multifaceted conceptual design rather than one large dominant concept.
The client wanted guests to experience different emotions throughout the various areas of the hotel, as observed from the bright, well-circulated guestrooms to the more masculine public areas.

Despite the differences in moods, a smooth and subtle transition is rendered between each space.
The selection of materials, such as stone, timber and silk reflects the Thai culture while the contrasting colour scheme of purple, orange and black alludes to the Orient.
