Tower 1 of the S$1 billion Asia Square development in Singapore has officially opened its doors in the country’s new business and lifestyle district at Marina Bay.

Designed by Denton Corker Marshall, the mixed-use development has already attracted such high profile multinational tenants as Citibank, Julius Baer, Lloyd’s and Google, to name a few.

Asia Square is the first commercial project in Singapore to earn LEED platinum certification. It also features highly efficient office spaces and offers a ’work-play-live’ concept, which Denton Corker Marshall’s director, Peter Williams, says is a critical point of difference in a competitive market.

“Commercial buildings today need more than a great address, they have to offer an excellent working and business environment,” says Williams.

Tower 1 is the first of 2 slender towers with massive column-free floor plates designed to optimise office space.

“Column-free floor plates are highly efficient in commercial buildings because tenants have complete flexibility to fit out the space to accommodate their needs, they’re not restricted by the building structure,” says Williams.

The tower also boasts a naturally lit recreation space and social hub called The Cube, which spans 9,300sqm and features a 16m-high ceiling. It is fully sheltered from the tropical climate with semi-transparent fritted glass skirt walls. Skylights punctuate its ceiling in a random pattern to enhance the natural light flooding in.

Extensive landscaping also provides lush green zones.

In addition, Asia Square has up to 6,500sqm of retail space and houses Singapore’s largest gym (at 3,000sqm).

Tower 2, when completed in 2013, will house the 5-star Westin Hotel.
