Organised by the Art Galleries Association, Singapore, the inaugural Art in Motion is a multi-venue arts and cultural experience taking place from 13 January, and culminating in a gallery tour complete with talks, artist walkthroughs and more on the weekend of 18 and 19 January.

The event presents a slice of contemporary Asian and international art across 13 premier galleries within Singapore’s cultural and heritage districts including Bras Basah.Bugis precinct, Gillman Barracks, Old Hill Street Police Station, Raffles Hotel Arcade, and Tanjong Pagar Distripark.

Not just an event for art buyers, Art in Motion’s Director, Benjamin Hampe says that Art in Motion seeks to make art more accessible to art audiences and to showcase the best of the country’s vibrant art scene.

“It’s not just for buyers, it’s also for people who are interested in seeing and learning and experiencing art work,” says Hampe, who is also co-owner and Director of Chan Hampe Galleries, one of the event’s participating galleries. “There’s a lot to be discovered amongst our amazing art galleries and we want this to be a platform where even families can come and spend a day soaking in our creative culture.”

He adds that the event is not just an opportunity for galleries to collaborate, but also serves as an opportunity for them to work with other types of creative industries.

Some of the unique highlights at Art in Motion include FRATERNIZE Artists Walkthroughs at ARTSPACE @ Helutrans – organised by Galerie Steph and Ikkan Art to provide young Singaporean artists with a platform for experimentation – and Perfect Day, an eye-popping light signage installation by artist Dawn Ng at Loof rooftop bar.

Key to Art in Motion are the complimentary buses, which will ply the three established routes on 18 and 19 January. These will be hosted by volunteer guides from the arts community.
