Alex Fitzpatrick, winner of Big River’s Timber to Tokyo competition, brings us his impressions of Tokyo Designers Week 2011.

As part of Big River’s Timber to Tokyo competition – announced during this year’s Saturday in Design Sydney – the lucky winner received a trip to Tokyo Designers Week. Alex Fitzpatrick, who took out the top prize for Light Garden, has been on the ground in Tokyo bringing us his highlights of this exciting design event.

’As i lived in Canada for 8 years, it was a nice surprise walking in to the show and being welcomed by the Canadian designers booth.

These green art pieces emphasize the importance and value of our natural environment and make for a wonderful green wall.

 

I found myself dancing along to the mixed beats of this amazingly engendered orchestra, filled with pre-programmed instruments, tools and turntables.

 

The toto booth and installation was a wonderful play on light with its metallic floor and mesmerizing and soothing interactive reflections.

 

 

It has been an interesting learning curve. Especially with the communication gap!
