The multidisciplinary program, now in its fifteenth year, attracts entries in two major categories – ’Space’, encompassing interior design and decoration and exhibition and display design, while a second category ’Object’ includes industrial, jewellery, furniture and textile design along with this year’s new section, ’Fashion design’.
Design Institute of Australia (DIA) national program and events officer Caroline Benzie says the ASDA provides an open brief opportunity inviting educators to nominate final year or newly graduated students for projects demonstrating design excellence and sustainable design practices.
“We also aim to promote that sustainable design practices have moved past their pop-culture status to form a key requirement of any good design process.”
The awards are open to full-time Australian and New Zealand undergraduate students and apprentices currently studying or recently graduated in second semester 2009 or first semester 2010.
All entries will be displayed at interior architecture and design exhibition designEX on April 22 to 24 with a judging panel of acclaimed designers, design academics and associated industry representatives to decide the ASDA award winners.
Ms Benzie says judges will give particular consideration to how well design projects minimise environmental impact and acknowledge social and economic ramifications.
The ASDA prize pool includes cash prizes, products, art and design supplies, DIA memberships and ASDA certificates.
