The new headquarters of ideas agency Tongue is an eclectic, playful space for imaginations to run wild.
October 20th, 2011
’Ideas agency’ Tongue prides itself on its creativity, energy and imagination. For its new Sydney studio, the team required a space that reflected its philosophy and vision.
Siren Design Group were brought in to transform a dilapidated heritage building in Chippendale into an informal, flexible and welcoming space where ideas could be shared and magic could be made.

The designers created a playful, unique environment on each of the 3 floors of the space. Entry is via a red English telephone box-style door, into a reception and waiting area made to look like a head teacher’s office.

A staircase with birdcages hanging overhead leads to a striking all-white presentation room. A white motorbike stands in the corner, and a growing snow-dome collection – added to by the staff – adds a fun personal touch.

On the first and second floors are custom-designed workstations and an outdoor terrace with a fully operational bar; break out rooms resemble living rooms and are designed for relaxing and re-energising in. Black timber flooring and mix-and-matched vintage furniture give a warm, lived-in feel.

Even the bathrooms exude eccentricity, the ladies’ a pink and green boudoir, the men’s created to resemble the inside of a cardboard box.

Siren are dedicated to sustainability, and the Tongue head office features 5 star rated fittings, recycled timber, low VOC paints and 5 star rated whitegoods and appliances.
With a small budget and short timeframe, Siren Design Group have created a vibrant, imaginative space befitting of a home for an energetic, ideas-focused digital agency.
