The New David’s, Melbourne

Hecker Guthrie’s design for the refurbished David’s in Prahran, Melbourne reflects the honesty of the brand.

Much loved eatery David’s in trendy Prharan, Melbourne has undergone an extensive renovation at the hands of hospitality design doyens Hecker Guthrie.

Launched in conjunction with a new menu, the success of the project is its loyalty to the restaurants rustic and traditionally focussed brand, in proprietor David Zhou’s words:

’country Shanghai comfort’

Bringing vintage pieces from H-Poem together with contemporary French lamps in the tradition of Chinese paper lanterns, the space if afforded a fresh homely atmosphere thanks in part to the abundance of natural lighting.

Furniture is stacked high, almost precariously, behind the bar and at the waiter’s station adding an endearing, ad-hoc playfulness.

“the new David’s draws on the heritage of old Shanghai and Melbourne’s lively hospitality scene, and gives a new life to the warehouse architecture of the building. “
