A garden installation by Sydney-based landscape architecture firm Habitation asks viewers to question whether the grass is indeed greener on the other side.
April 11th, 2011
The 11th Reford Gardens International Garden Festival in Quebec asked designers to create a garden installation responding to the keyword ‘Paradise’.
An Australian team – David Vago, Simone Marsh and Nick Brown of Sydney’s Habitation – was chosen as one of 3 practices to create an installation for this leading international festival.
Habitation’s winning entry was inspired by mankind’s relentless and often destructive pursuit of paradise.
As we exploit and ruin what’s around us in search of paradise, are we really looking for a figment of our imagination, an idea that doesn’t exist? Should we instead be finding paradise in what’s around us?
A simple construction of steel, timber and turf, the installation invites viewers to interact with it as they ask themselves if the grass really is greener on the other side.
A reimagined Grass is Greener will also feature at this year’s Reford Gardens International Garden Festival.
