Charles and Ray Eames have been honored by the US postal service with range of 16 stamps featuring their revolutionary work and lives.
June 17th, 2008
The likenesses and designs of Charles and Ray Eames will grace 16 new stamps, dedicated and released by the U.S. Postal Service today (June 17) at the Eames Office in Santa Monica, Calif.
The stamps are more than two years in the making and were designed by noted graphic artist Derry Noyes.
Noyes has been a graphic designer for the postal service since the early 1980s and jumped at the chance to design the stamps.
The image range includes the iconic moulded plywood chair, the House of Cards, graphic design projects, and even a Christmas card the couple sent in 1943.
Noyes said the scope of the Eameses work and variety of their passions made it necessary to produce 16 individual stamps — an unusually large number for any one person or couple.
Fittingly, the stamps will be issued on Charles Eames’ 101st birthday.
