studiobd have refurbished world renowned biotechnology company Benitic Biopharma in a way that reflects the brand to a tee.
December 17th, 2014
The office refurbishment of Benitec’s Sydney headquarters was in an historic industrial building (existing Big Sister Pudding Factory) in Balmain NSW Australia.
The initial concept was to reflect Benitec’s brand in built-form (clinical, scientific, world class) – to create a ‘wow’ factor for both Benitec staff and international/national visitors. The existing space was quite dark with minimal natural light.
The space includes high level openings only, so bringing natural daylight into the space was going to be a challenge. studiobd kept to the clients strict brief and played on old school values and disciplines (eg. placing workstations facing toward the front of the class) and were able create a light filled space that is a delight to work in and reflects the Benitec brand to a tee.
The new office space includes 8 x fixed workstations, an informal meeting table directly adjacent to the workstations (with a large pendant light over), as well as a formal meeting/board room, staff meeting/lunch area and lower level library/break-out area.
With a passion for design and social and environmental issues, studio bd was founded by Husband and wife design team Boris & Diana Dragas. The design team incorporates architects and interior designers. Boris is an architect with experience delivering projects in Sydney and Europe. Diana is an Interior Designer who has worked on numerous interior retail and residential projects.
