The evolution of the Papilio Collection from B&B Italia has been an organic one, in the tradition of its namesake, the butterfly.
May 29th, 2013
Naoto Fukasawa’s successful Papilio Collection debuted in 2009 with the Grande Papilio Lounge Chair, since that time the range has been extended to include the Love Papilio love-seat, Mini Papilio chairs and Piccola Papilio models.
In 2013 B&B Italia introduced the Grande Papilio now optimised for use outdoors; the most natural progression for a range of seating that has swiftly asserted itself as a design icon of our time.
Where the natural abaca interlacing weave served to accentuate the organic forms and bring out the details in the Grande Papilio model with Abaca, the same aesthetic is achieved for the Papilio Outdoor collection using anthracite polyethylene over an aluminium frame.
A departure from its upholstered cousins, the newest Papilio offerings lend themselves for use outdoors – endowing al fresco settings with a sense of luxury, binding the interiors and exterior seamlessly, blurring the line between indoor and outdoor lounging archetypes.
