Boutique design and sustainable standards where form meets function.
March 3rd, 2010
Melbourne-based design boutique, Nicholls Design, specialises in small to medium scale furnishings across both commercial and residential projects.
In his designs, founder Brad Nicholls draws on natural elements to add warmth to cold environments, creating durable furniture that sits softly within any space.
With an impressive collection of recycled timber and natural upholstered furniture, Nicholls also offers custom-made options for the design market, to suit almost any application.
Nicholls’ ‘Slim’ sofa/day bed is the perfect example of their form meets function philosophy. A highly versatile piece, Slim is designed to adapt to a multitude of uses, from open plan environments through to small apartment living – with an easily removable back, meaning the piece can work as both a sofa and a relaxed day bed.
Slim has both aesthetic and sustainable ambitions, with a recycled timber frame and natural latex and wool filling, while the unique upholstery is hand-printed in Melbourne.
Another elegant Nicholls design, the ‘Boxa’ storage unit, is designed with adjustable cabinet shelves to accommodate everything from a hi-fi to books and CDs. The top hung track mechanism also allows for easy cleaning, while making it easy to slide books in and out.
Boxa is constructed from locally sourced recycled hardwood or F.S.C. certified timbers and is finished in natural oils.
Visit the Nicholls Design website to see the full range of inspired furniture products, or you can visit them in person in their rural location 40 minutes south-east of Melbourne.
