After its success in New York, Eataly opens in Chicago.
December 4th, 2014
With the opening, Eataly doubles its presence in America and confirms iGuzzini as its lighting partner. After New York, the Italian food giant opens in Chicago, too, with the same format and an even wider choice.
With 22 restaurants and food counters, a cooking school, food store, wine store, bookshop and much more, Eataly is a unique, 6,000 square metre megastore that enables fine Italian food to be enjoyed overseas. And not only, as Eataly’s stated mission is to encourage home cooking by making top quality products available for purchase.
To create the lighting system for the store, our office in New York worked closely with lighting designers from Hugh Lighting Design, making numerous on-site inspections to ensure that everything matched the classic Eataly format perfectly.
To light the display and bar areas, small size, 2000lm, iGuzzini Front Light luminaires have been installed on tracks. This simple, essential product is a fine combination of design and low cost, style and functionality.
The restaurants, on the other hand, are lit with frame version, recessed Laser Blade luminaires: a linear product that offers both spectacular effects and a highly efficient light yield.

To honour Chef James Won’s appointment as Gaggenau’s first Malaysian Culinary Partner, we asked the gastronomic luminaire about parallels between Gaggenau’s ethos and his own practice, his multidimensional vision of Modern Malaysian – and how his early experiences of KFC’s accessible, bold flavours influenced his concept of fine dining.
In design, the concept of absence is particularly powerful – it’s the abundant potential of deliberate non-presence that amplifies the impact of what is. And it is this realm of sophisticated subtraction that Gaggenau’s Dishwasher 400 Series so generously – and quietly – occupies.
Gaggenau’s understated appliance fuses a carefully calibrated aesthetic of deliberate subtraction with an intuitive dynamism of culinary fluidity, unveiling a delightfully unrestricted spectrum of high-performing creativity.
