Renowned UK designer Benjamin Hubert will be travelling to Sydney for this year’s Saturday in Design thanks to Great Dane Furniture.
June 29th, 2011
At Saturday in Design 2011 you’ll have an amazing opportunity to delve into the design process with award-winning UK designer Benjamin Hubert.
Great Dane Furniture are bringing Hubert to Sydney for the event following on from his success at the Milan Furniture Fair earlier this year – where he debuted the ’Maritime Chair’. The young, energetic designer has received critical acclaim on the international design stage since founding his design studio just 4 years ago, with awards in 2010 including Design of the year in the British Design awards, Homes and Gardens Young Designer of the Year and EDIDA International Young Designer of the Year.
The Maritime Chair
Materiality is Hubert’s first solo show, curated by Germany’s Johansssen Gallery, and will run until August 30.
Hubert’s designs work perfectly with Great Dane’s theme for SiD Sydney 2011 – Materiality: Make, Create, Play – with his focus on material, craftsmanship and playfulness.

On Saturday 20 August Hubert will be on hand in the Great Dane showroom with sessions throughout the day to talk about his process and materials. Guests to the showroom will also be invited to participate in a collaborative project about the future of design in a celebration of the exclusive Australian launch of Hubert’s ’Roofer’ and ’Chimney’ designs.

When you visit Great Dane you’ll also see, firsthand, the time and effort that goes into producing handmade furniture with papercording and cork shaping by local artisans.
There will also be great prizes to be won including signed and framed prints of Benjamin Hubert’s sketches and a 2-night stay at Southern Ocean Lodge, Kangaroo Island.
Hubert will also be guest-lecturing at the University of Technology during his visit.
Make sure you get along to Redfern: the artisan precinct.
