First Nations designers co-locate with architects in built environment breakthrough
Aboriginal design and landscape architecture studio Yerrabingin has co-located with renowned architecture and urban design practice Tzannes in their Sydney studio, marking a pivotal moment in fostering First Nations-led design. This move strengthens the collaboration between the two practices, which have worked together for years to integrate First Nations knowledge into the built environment.
“I’ve had the great opportunity to collaborate and work with Tzannes in designing with Country on several important civic scale projects,” says Christian Hampson, CEO of Yerrabingin. “Together, we have designed for resilience, regeneration… shaping our connected role as custodians in design.”
Design Nation welcomes back a familiar face, taking on the role of Client Relations Director

Elevations at ARM
ARM Architecture has announced a series of key promotions across its Sydney and Melbourne studios, highlighting their dedication to fostering leadership and recognising talent within its team.
Joshua Morrin, based in the Sydney studio, has been promoted to Principal, a recognition of his problem-solving expertise and approach to major projects. “Together, we’ve worked on projects both locally and across the country…always striving to bring the best of ourselves to each project,” says Morrin.
In Melbourne, Hannah Kuek and Chris Buchhorn have been promoted to Senior Associates. Kuek’s precision in handling complex projects and dedication to design excellence has positioned her for greater leadership, while Buchhorn’s collaborative approach and expertise in project delivery continue to enhance community-impacting projects. “ARM’s architecture tells stories about people, culture, and Place,” Kuek notes.
Additionally, Nessie Frangos has been elevated to Associate, recognised for his creative vision and technical prowess, contributing to the bold design culture ARM Architecture is known for.
John McAslan + Partners has strengthened its international transport team
John McAslan + Partners has strengthened its international transport team with the appointment of Andrew Shields as Director and Davie Paterson as Project Manager, both based in the Sydney studio. Shields brings over 40 years of global transport experience, with recent work on major Australian metro projects, including the Sydney Metro West Scoping and Definition Design and Barangaroo Station.
Troy Uleman, Sydney studio lead, highlights the significance of Shields’ arrival: “With our Sydney Metro City projects now complete, we are looking at opportunities aligned with the next stage of Sydney Metro. Andrew’s deep knowledge of Sydney Metro will greatly benefit our team.”
Shields is eager to return to an internationally renowned practice: “John McAslan + Partners has a long history of great projects. The two stations they designed on Sydney Metro City are clear, purposeful, and well-considered. I look forward to joining a design-focused team where I can make an impact and mentor younger staff members.
Paterson, who comes from Deloitte’s Responsible Business division, will handle daily operations, freeing Shields and Uleman to focus on clients and business growth. “Davie’s skills will make a great contribution to the studio,” says Uleman, “especially as we continue to expand our capacity in Australia’s booming transport infrastructure sector.”
Downstream promotes Annabel Dundas as Creative & Managing Director for ANZ
Downstream has appointed Annabel Dundas as Creative & Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), expanding her role to lead creative vision and operational growth. With over 25 years in the design industry, Dundas has been pivotal in Downstream’s recent projects since joining as Executive Producer two years ago. She previously founded Tilt Creative and has extensive experience in sports graphics, having worked with FIFA and other major organisations.

OCULUS gets a new Associate Director
OCULUS has to announced the promotion of Peta Miskovich to Associate Director. Peta is known for her dedication to inclusive urban design, innovative project delivery, and creating socially and environmentally responsible outcomes for communities. With over a decade of experience, she has contributed to a wide range of projects across Australia, including Seafarers Rest Park and Melbourne Quarter in Victoria.
Since joining OCULUS in 2015, Peta has worked in all three of the Australian studios. Currently, she divides her time between Sydney and Canberra, where she has played a key role in projects like the ACT Gender Sensitive Urban Design Guidelines and the ACT Planning System Review and Reform.
Peta joins Associate Directors Claire Martin, Keith Stead, Roger Jasprizza, and Jack Qian, working under the leadership of OCULUS Director Bob Earl. This promotion reflects OCULUS’ dedication to design excellence and the professional growth of its team.

Matthews Architects welcomes Karin Wouters as Designer and Project Leader
Leading South Australian architecture and interior design firm Matthews Architects strengthens its team with the appointment of Karin Wouters as designer and project leader.
With over 10 years of experience both in Australia and internationally, Wouters has successfully delivered complex projects across medical, education, hospitality, residential and social housing sectors. After completing her architectural studies in Germany and interning in France, she worked on significant developments, including a hospital project and the Toulouse Airport expansion, before relocating to Perth to focus on residential architecture and hospitality.

Myles Russell-Cook appointed Artistic Director & CEO of ACCA
Myles Russell-Cook, Senior Curator of Australian and First Nations Art at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), has been appointed the Artistic Director & CEO of the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA), marking a new chapter for the institution. Russell-Cook is known for his contributions to major projects like the NGV Triennial and QUEER: Stories from the NGV Collection. His extensive work in First Nations art has made him a leading figure in both local and international art scenes.

Senior appointments at Buchan drive sport and technology
Design practice Buchan has welcomed two new additions to its global team, Jake Martin and Jeames Hanley, to bolster its sports sector and digital technology capabilities. Martin joins as Senior Associate, while Hanley takes on the role of Digital Technology Lead.
Martin, a seasoned architect with 15 years of experience in Australia, Asia, and the US, specialises in sports infrastructure, including stadiums, arenas, and high-performance training facilities. “I’m excited to join Buchan at a time of growth and opportunity.
