Apart from being a classic example of the work of one of Australia’s best architects, Rose Seidler House has increasingly become a part of Sydney’s cultural landscape.

Managed by the Historic Houses Trust and nestled in the bushland near Ku-ring-gai National Park, the house will once again be open to visitors from 7 – 8 March 2009 to celebrate Harry Seidler’s architecture.

“Rose Seidler House, with its stunning colours, striking architecture and original furnishings is not only a fun trip back to the 1950s but a fitting tribute to Harry Seidler’s work,” says Andrew Mitchell, manager of Rose Seidler House.

The weekend will include lunchtime architecture talks from architect Jyoti Somerville (who owns a Seidler house in Gordon) on Saturday and on Sunday Harry Seilder’s cousin Brian Seidler will speak about his Marcus Seidler House in Turramurra. The two will speak on how they have adapted their Seidler designs to modern living.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to view rarely seen footage of the construction of some of Seidler’s early works including Blues Point Tower and Marcus Seidler House.

The weekend will also include a sale of architecture and design books and a selection of food stalls. Entry is free and there’s no need to book. Visit the Historic Houses Trust website for more info or phone +61 2 8239 2211
