Co-curated by FARM and BBH, the first ROJAK party for 2011 on Friday 18 February saw 10 presenters showing 10 slides in 10 minutes – with live music in between! Janice Seow reports.
February 25th, 2011
Free entry. Held in a different location each time. And 10 presenters from across different creative disciplines to give you a quick glimpse of their work! Oh, and lets not forget the music – just bring your own drinks…
Little wonder that ROJAK – which started in 2005 as a house party by a group of architecture graduates, and which has since grown into cross-disciplinary design practice FARM – continues to draw a crowd.
Curious as always, Indesignlive was down for the first ROJAK event in 2011 at the BBH courtyard on Magazine Road.
Here’s what we liked!
Hunn Wai, Lanzavecchia + Wai
Hunn Wai, one half of the design duo that includes Francesca Lanzavecchia, showed the studio’s debut collection at last year’s Milan Design Week. Called the “Spaziale Series”, it comprised furniture pieces constructed from light wooden structures and stretchable fabric skins.

Also presented were new works debuting this April at the same fair, such as the Fragmented nesting cabinets and Pile-Up bookcase. The duo attempts to feed off each other’s backgrounds, knowledge and skill-sets to fuel lateral thinking and agile tangible application.

Felix Ng, SILNT
SILNT was set up by Felix Ng and Germaine Chong in 2005 and still remains a studio of two.

Felix presented a new experimental studio model, where they will keep to 25 projects a year – for small businesses only. They hope this will enable them to work more closely with business owners to create better work, and give them more flexibility and headspace to focus on their personal initiatives under Anonymous, where past projects included A Design Film Festival.
