’Colour My World’ presents the recent work of landscape painter Belynda Henry.
March 1st, 2012
For the past 15 years, artist Belynda Henry has painted the landscape around her, using her natural surroundings as inspiration for her large body of work.
Recently moving away from an abstract geometric style and focusing on the simplified forms of timeless nature, Henry’s new work sees her making a distinction between representation and imagination.
Blocks of colour, executed boldly but retaining a sense of peace and calm, represent the ’jigsaw puzzle’ of landscape that makes up Henry’s idyllic countryside surroundings.
“Every day I observe my subject matter and every day I am moved by the power of nature,” Henry says. “The dazzling display of seasonal colours, light, texture, lines, tones and hues… I try to recreate on the canvas the feelings and emotions this landscape has on me. My paintings are based on emotion and a passion for the colour in my world.”
Colour My World is on at Richard Martin Art, 98 Holdsworth Street, Woollahra until 7 March.
Opening hours are Tues to Sat 11am-6pm, Sun 1pm-5pm
