American Design Heroes is an exploration of the work of Harley Earl and Charles and Ray Eames, design pioneers in post-war America.
February 18th, 2011
The United States underwent a revolution in design, innovation and culture in the post-war period, with Harley Earl and Charles and Ray Eames leading the charge.
These influential designers will be the subject of a live discussion by Alex Ritchie, Creative Director of experiential design agency e2, and furniture expert and Eames collaborator Alan Boyd.
“Charles and Ray Eames and Harley Earl were agents of social change,” Ritchie and Boyd explain.
“They brought modernism into the lives of the everyday American family. The legacy to this day still sets a standard for design excellence.”
As the Head of Design at General Motors from 1927 to 1959, Earl championed aerodynamic modernism in the form of 35 million cars.
Furniture designers Charles and Ray Eames became cultural ambassadors, inspiring future generations with their talents.
Join Ritchie and Boyd as they discuss the impact of these iconic design heroes at Sydney’s The American Club on Thursday 3 March 2011.
