Luxury in Hong Kong is often translated into glitzy materials and posh table settings. Such features, however, are nowhere in sight at Limewood, a casual and relaxing spot located at Repulse Bay, designed by Ben McCarthy of Hong Kong-based boutique studio Charlie & Rose.

With many notable F&B and hospitality projects under his belt, McCarthy has graced Hong Kong’s culinary scene with designs of different styles, such as the Victorian Stockton, Pop Art-inspired Cantopop, and Brickhouse, which is known for its industrial chic.

None of these, however, is close to this new Californian restaurant, Limewood. Its pastel palette adds a dreamy touch to its beachside scenery, while shades of azure green form geometric patterns across the walls, creating a harmonious contrast with white wooden seat frames.

“Limewood has a relaxed vibe with a mix of elements that remind you of your favourite beach destination.” says McCarthy of the mood-lifting space serving international barbecued seafood and meats.

Besides steel and leather, the generous use of reclaimed timber is another highlight within the space. Some painted in white, some with paint stains intentionally preserved, the extensively collected wood panels lend a rustic feel to the relaxing environment.

According to McCarthy, the whole aesthetic responds to the menu. “[The food] is a mix of colours, details and textures from the coastal areas of South East Asia, South America and the Caribbean,” McCarthy explains the inspiration behind the “simple colour palette that supports the vibrant food and drinks on offer.”

When asked about his favourite spot within the restaurant, McCarthy points to the bar. “[It] has to be the best place for a cocktail in Hong Kong on a sunny day.”
