On 4 September, K11 Design Month kicked off, presenting the public with more than 100 original creations and ideas by emerging designers from Hong Kong and overseas. This is the fourth annual edition of K11’s Design Month, which is intended to give Hongkongers a jolt of creativity, and to act as an exchange for cultural concepts.

K11 Design Month – the theme for which is Design for Life this year – “allow[s] the public to appreciate different local design works and performance during shopping and leisure,” says Rebecca Woo, Operations Director of K11 Hong Kong. “This can help enhance the communication and exchanges between designers and the public, nurture habits of design appreciation, and allow up-and-coming local design talents to have more opportunities for showcasing their works so as to foster the development of local design industry.”
K11 Design Store is located in Kowloon, and it offers a range of designer products in its Hanoi Road shop. Running until 11 October, the store’s Design Month includes a selection of different events, including The Secret Life of Design.

This event, which runs until 5 October, allows design studios from all over the world to present real projects, and a variety of perspectives on different types of design. The exhibition includes videos from studios in the Netherlands, Hong Kong and the UK, among others, and covers the relationship between humanity, nature and science. Taiwanese designer Alice Wang is taking part, as is Hong Kong Design Institute’s DESIS Lab.

Also part of K11 Design Month is a collaboration with Maywa Denki, the experimental art collective from Japan, running from 11 September to 26 October.
