Tuesday 17th November, 6pm
Woollahra Library at Double Bay

Join us for a public forum with serious design!

The NSW Government’s announcement of rezoning plans around Woollahra and Edgecliff has aroused strong feelings and public interest, from both local residents and Sydneysiders across the city. It’s a plan that touches some of the keenest nerves in city today — from housing affordability crises to questions of urban density, heritage preservation and appropriate development. However, the public debate is often framed in misleading ways. This event will bring some actual design knowledge to the debate, with experts in architecture and urban planning providing the insight that citizens can use to cut through the bad-faith arguments.

The event will include a short keynote by Philip Thalis, followed by a panel discussion and audience questions. We will be discussing topics such as the false binary between NIMBYism and deregulated high-rise development; the existing levels of density in Sydney’s inner suburbs; the framing of objections to the plans as elitist; and what density done well in the city might look like. Featuring:

Philip Thalis,
Hill Thalis Architecture & Urban Projects Pty Ltd

Matthew Bennett,

Sue Weatherley,
Planning Institute of Australia

Timothy Alouani-Roby,
Editor, indesignlive
