Classical, yet avant-garde: La Salita and Viccarbe welcome you to the Mediterranean

Designed by Piero Lissoni for Viccarbe, the Season Chair embraces diners in for a culinary experience that unifies Mediterranean design and a daring epicurean journey.

Nestled in an eighteenth-century home in the Ruzafa borough of Valencia, Spain, sits the Michelin-starred restaurant, La Salita. With Spanish chef Begoña Rodrigo at the helm, the restaurant seeks to offer an experience that transports you to a land of endless sun and sensational flavours. Deemed as her most avant-garde gastronomic concept to date, La Salita seamlessly blends Mediterranean design with bold and unexpected flavours.

In collaboration with interior designer, Silvia Bellot, director of Mediterranean Nomad, both the menu and design draw inspiration from La Salita’s surrounds, engaging with the many dualities inherent in the modern dining and cultural experiences.

The centuries-old building is reminiscent of a Valencia from long ago, while the interiors pay homage to its stunning locale with a contemporary twist.

From the moment you step into La Salita, you are greeted by a warm, open space bathed in natural light from every direction. Authentic hydraulic floor tiles and traditional ornate ceilings are brought to life with elegant fittings and minimalist furniture pieces, drawing together the past and present of Mediterranean style.

Expansive windows and classical French doors extend the restaurant out to the balconies that wrap around the building, connecting guests to the beauty of Mediterranean nature and providing the perfect backdrop to highlight the vivid flavours of La Salita.

Complementing the earthy hues of wood and wicker are the iconic pieces from local firms that have been selected to complete the Mediterranean experience. In Bellot and Rodrigo’s eyes, the beloved Season Chair by Italian architect, Piero Lissoni, was the perfect addition to enhance the culinary experience.

Designed for contemporary furniture brand, Viccarbe, the Season Chair is a standout piece: sophisticated, functional and effortlessly timeless. A resounding chair with a kind and hospitable design, its soft materiality provides a sense of comfort and homeliness, while its geometric silhouette befits the elegant atmosphere of La Salita.

Lissoni envisioned harmony in the design, creating a seamless transition from backrest to seat and forging a silhouette that begs for company. The low-line backrest also allows for views across the space to remain unobstructed.

The concealed casters on the Season Chair’s base supports easy movement of the piece across different areas of the restaurant, offering endless design possibilities. Lissoni’s meticulous attention to detail can also be seen in the tan colour band located at the foot height.

Made with highly technical material, this intricate detail prolongs its lifetime by minimising wear and tear throughout the years.

La Salita delivers a captivating design experience that echoes the remarkable culinary experience: deeply steeped in tradition and history, yet playful, vibrant and with many modern elements. Supported by local designers like Viccarbe, La Salita puts forward the perfect atmosphere for Rodrigo to present electrifying Mediterranean food for the people of Ruzafa.
