Mandi Keighran and Alice Blackwood caught up with Belgian designer Bram Boo at the Bulo stand at Milan’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile.
April 27th, 2011
Affirming his prestige after being named the designer of the year by Interieur Foundation and Knack Weekend at the Interieur design fair in Kortrijk last year, Bram Boo presented his ’Overdose’ designs in Milan this year with Bulo.
Bram Boo is a self-taught Belgian designer who initially began designing furniture for his home space because he couldn’t find manufactured furniture that he liked. He now designs for a number of international brands and his work features in the collections of Belgian design companies Indera and Feld. His approach to design is unique, fusing simplicity with surprising functionality to give objects a personality of their own.
The ’Overdose’ desk and storage prototype was displayed last year at Interieur and, in Milan, we stumbled across Bram Boo with both his pieces at the Bulo stand at the fair. The ’Overdose’ collection (there are several other pieces including a lamp – which we want to see in production soon!) reflects his trademark aesthetic; a disruption of mainstream approaches to space and storage.
Dynamic and functional, the ’Overdose’ desk and storage both feature a jumbled array of boxes in different sizes. The design is a quirky reflection of the workspace of the left brained creative, with its seemingly messy layout. However, it remains completely ordered in its chaos, proving that there is more than one way to be organised.
An eye-catching centre piece for contemporary working spaces.
