Released in 2016 and designed by Cassina Art Director and renowned designer Patricia Urqiuola the Gender armchair is a one of a kind chair designed for the modern design and cultural landscapes.
The Gender armchair is dressed in layers of textures, materials and colours. The soft padded inner upholstery, contrasts to its rigid structural exterior. The sinuous design is further enhanced with a coloured leather profile.
The naming of the Gender armchair comes from its own changing identity, based on the chromatic and material combinations it has, recalling an encounter between two formally independent shapes; one structural, flexible and enveloping, the other with a soft interior to more appropriately identify the seat.
The Urquiola design of the Gender armchair freely crosses traditional male/ female barriers and is intended to be sober or bold, strong or delicate. Playing with its identity is the choice of the user or owner, often depending on the chair’s relationship with its setting.
The soft cushioning of the interior dialogues in contrast to its exterior, which is traced with a coloured leather profile. Gender’s high and cocooning backrest embraces the body, becoming even more comfortable with up to 15° movement.
Available in five colour combinations, the Gender armchair is available in Australia and Asia through Space Furniture.
