Milan is arguably the design industry’s most significant event. Being at the Salone del Mobile, means becoming part of a community that is now the undisputed international point of reference for design.
The Salone del Mobile is a driving force and an ambassador for skill and creativity. A place where the stories of manufacturers and designers that have shaped the history of design and are designing that of the future continue to interweave. It is not just the greatest trade event in the world and a networking hub; it is also the acknowledged showcase for cutting edge design trends. It is where design belongs and where it continues to find its fullest representation. It is here that careers are made. In addition, unlike its fellow counterparts (LDF, ICFF NYC, Stockholm etc.)
Milan is the industy’s most theatrical and experimental event, meaning it is the least transactional and more of a space to explore and consider design outside of a commercial context. This is such a vital component to the lifeblood of design as a practice, and whether or not you like Milan (the long days, the crowds, the incessant instagrammers – I get it), you can’t argue its worth as the most exciting, inspirational, grand design spectacle of the year. Like it or not, Milan is extraordinary, and if you work in design in any way shape or form, you need to go – even just once.
For those that couldn’t attend this year’s pilgrimage, we’ve put together a killer panel to edit down exactly what you need to take away from this year’s fair including:
