An architectural exhibition curated by one of this country’s leading architects has drawn strong praise and thrown the spotlight on home-grown talent
October 31st, 2012
National award winning architect and Adjunct Professor of Architecture UTS, Dale Jones-Evans has curated an insightful new exhibition at the Art and Design Gallery in Studio Becker’s theatrical new Redfern showroom.
Opening on Friday the 12th of October (see gallery below), the exhibition drew an illustrious and eminent crowd, gathered to celebrate design excellence within the local design community.
Selecting iconic architects from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane; Jones-Evans presents drawings, photographs and models of a house considered by each exhibitor to be ’seminal’ to their own practice as well as a house they are currently working on or have recently completed.
The intent is that by way of juxtaposition of the two properties, each architect will reveal how their process, aesthetic and practice has evolved and developed over time.
In Jones-Evans’ words:
“As makers of iconic residential architecture, our Australian architects continue to explore and leave a wake of work across this continent, which inspires younger generations of architects to push further.”
With the current exhibition already a success and armed with a desire to foster this emerging generation of designers, a sequel exhibition will be staged in 2013. “New Icons by New Icons” will showcase cutting edge houses from the creative minds of the next generation of Australian architects.
