Smeg took their fashion streak to the next level, displaying their limited edition denim fridge, treated with an invisible protective coating. And next door, graffitists went to work stamping (spraying?) their mark on a series of FAB fridges.

Cosh Living/Tsar/Zip Industries
Cosh’s spacious showroom served as the perfect backdrop to their own ranges and Tsar’s colourful range of rugs. During the afternoon especially, it was the place to be for a backyard barbecue, as they served up charred lamb chops in the outdoor area, where you could also try Zip’s new sparkling water.

Temperature Design/Archilux
During the day, Temperature Design’s interior became as colourful as the graffiti in the adjoining laneway. Bright ribbons were the chromatic counterpoint to Temperature’s warm timber-focused ranges, while the new Archilux lanterns swung around the donut truck that kept visitors warm and happy even amidst the rain.

Launch Pad
Upstairs at Lightly, the Launch Pad Finalist exhibition featured 12 of the best products by emerging Australian designers. Following the addition of the Ultimate Design Prize in 2011, the calibre of this year’s entries was higher than ever before, represented by the 2012 winner, the ’Glide’ light by Andrew Grigor. David Hardwick and Tate Anson were recipients of the Indesign Award, for their ’Unfold Desk’ and ’Tryst’ stool respectively.

Taking over Rokeby Studios for the day, Jardan used the space to showcase their furniture in a range of settings for work and play. Impeccably styled, yet effortlessly casual, the two large rooms housed a number of new pieces and visitors lingered to try them all out.

Bentwood masters Thonet also displayed new chairs from Green s.r.l. and some colourful additions from Tolix France, with giveaways taking place throughout Saturday for lucky visitors.

Tait Outdoor
Tait showed us why Outdoor is their forte, with Adam Goodrum’s new wire range along with Gordon Tait’s outdoor lounge and Softline planters. Their showroom was buzzing over both days.

Great Dane
Across the road, the SiD story was the same for Great Dane.
Following on from their vibe last year, Great Dane featured a workshop-style experience, with weavers showing how a simple frame transforms into a beautifully finished product with a few pieces of fabric or textile, simply wrapped over and among itself.

DQ Design Collective

At Oblica, guests discovered their range of contemporary fireplaces and the Focus brand. As well, Christopher Boots, Tide Design, Materialised, Youmans and Ross Gardam showcased their wares under the DQ Design Collective – the first time any of them had exhibited formally at Saturday in Design. This combined effort saw lights, Australian-designed furniture, creative capsules and the latest textiles shine in the one space, as well as a BOLON Missoni house installation.
