Award-winning Melbourne and London-based architecture and interior design practice, Travis Walton Architecture has earned the title of Best International Store of the Year Award in the Retail Week Interior Awards.
November 19th, 2015
Out of the 100 shortlisted venues from around the world, the prestigious award recognised Greene Street Juice Co. in Prahran, as setting a global benchmark for innovative and inspirational retail environments. The awards were announced in London earlier this month, where Greene St Juice Co. received the coveted prize of International Store of the Year, coming out ahead of global design firms including Zaha Hadid Architects.
Greene St Juice Co. is a design-focused, New York inspired cold-pressed juice bar located in Melbourne’s trendy suburb of Prahran. The practice has gone from strength to strength since 2009, leaving its mark not only in Melbourne but also in London and New York. Its Soho-style captures the essence of the metropolitan city from which the retail spaces draws inspiration, showcased through the raw aesthetic and free-flowing design elements.
Travis Walton Architecture (TWA) Director Travis Walton explains the brief was to capture a sense of New York City without being too overt. “Our design response concealed the back-of-house functions from view and broke down the traditional sales counter design to individual ‘pod-like’ timber and stone units. The end result is a more fluid exploration of the space allowing for a more consultative-type customer experience.”
The elements of the design include soft, white metal structures to reflect New York’s bridges and fire escapes, and signature Greene Street glass bottles effortlessly integrate with recessed shelving cut outs. The use of natural finishes create a warm and inviting environment for customers and a custom ice well sits neatly at the entry to service regular passers by. These elements result in a striking juice bar that embodies the quintessence of New York City and a minimalistic but enticing space for juice-lovers.
TWA’s Travis Walton says he feels inspired and honored to be recognised alongside world-class practices since making the debut in the international design scene only six years ago.
