Now in its 14th year, WORKSHOPPED’s exhibitions have set the benchmark in presenting the future of Australian design to the widest possible audience. The exhibition is about getting designs seen by as wide an audience as possible and provides invaluable networking for designers. Manufacturers, distributors and retailers buzzed about commercial potential and importantly, over the next 10 days designers will receive invaluable feedback from the gener al public through the People’s Choice Award.
MC and funny man Mark Humphries, writer/performer on ABC2’s The Roast, welcomed the crowd reflecting on his days as a design retail assistant and querying whether the pinnacle of design success had depressingly been reduced to being copied by Matt Blatt furniture.
This year’s exhibition focused on the importance of imagination and design thinking, asking designers to share their thought processes in developing ideas, designs and products – from a clean slate!
WORKSHOPPED Director Raymond Scott, said “It’s been a big year for WORKSHOPPED, with more Australian designs finding their way to market. Architects and interior designers are increasingly interested in specifying Australian design for both domestic and commercial contexts – it’s very exciting!” Co-Director Leanne Gibson said, “We’re incredibly proud of the exhibition, the quality of design and the fact that so many people are keen to see Australian design.
