February 3rd, 2011
Robert Gill FDIA, Ron Rosenfeldt LFDIA and Joan Stewart FDIA received the honour of being the latest Australian design greats inducted into the DIA’s Hall of Fame.
The DIA Hall of Fame is a celebration of the achievements of designers who have contributed to the promotion of design excellence in Australia.
Originally bestowed upon Victorian designers as part of the Victorian Design Awards, the DIA Hall of Fame now encompasses designers Australia-wide who have impacted on Australia’s cultural and economic development.
Robert Gill, whose daughter accepted the award on his behalf, originally trained as a carpenter and joiner before studying architecture in London.
Gill is a multiple award-winning designer for furniture, industrial and graphic design and architecture, and author of the bestselling ‘Rendering with Pen and Ink’.
Ron Rosenfeldt, who was inducted to the Hall of Fame posthumously, was an industrial design pioneer and founding member of what is now the DIA.
Joan Stewart has been a member of the DIA since 1957 and has a long history of involvement with design education at RMIT and the Melbourne College of Decoration as well as being renowned for her work in industrial, commercial and domestic interior design projects.
Gill, Rosenfeldt and Stewart join a list of luminaries that have shaped the look and landscape of Australian life.
