Living Edge and Woodhead take up the Earth Hour challenge with their ‘Power of One’ programme.
March 4th, 2009
Architecture and design will once again work hand-in-hand to promote Earth Hour 2009 in March with Living Edge and Woodhead fully embracing the movement.
The Earth Hour Initiative aims to get millions of people around the world to switch off their lights for one hour – creating awareness of global warming, reducing energy use and proving that the individual really does have the power to make a global difference.
This year Living Edge and Woodhead have developed a programme, dubbed ‘The Power of One’, to further respond to the Earth Hour call to action. Each week during March all the companies’ offices will take part in one of four key initiatives.
Offices will hold design workshops on ‘doing more with less’ where they will discuss concepts of reuse, recyclability and sustainability; they will be encouraged to walk, ride or take public transport to work; ‘Reduce and Recycle’ will aim to reduce office waste while increasing recycling and, lastly, they will ask staff to think about how they can each make a difference with tips from a guest speaker from Architects without frontiers.
The efforts will culminate in a ‘candelight cocktail party’ in Sydney on the eve of Earth Hour on Saturday 28 March, and of course, with the switching off of their lights.
‘The Power of One’ programme is part of a continued series of initiatives from both Living Edge and Woodhead focussing on key areas of sustainability.
