The Red Dot is one of the world’s most sought-after design prizes. In an evaluation process lasting several days, each one of the 4,662 product creations submitted was tested, discussed and evaluated in detail and on site by renowned experts. The Ottawa collection of dining furniture scored highly.
The Ottawa dining chair is truly a unique piece of design. Inspired by nature with its leaf shape and a forest of legs, the chair is abound with character. Rashid’s inimitable vision engendered the creation of a chair that entwined innovative design with optimal comfort as Karim Rashid explains, “when you do something very new, it is a challenge to make it comfortable. But in this day and age, there really is no excuse to make something uncomfortable. We know too much today to have this excuse.”
Renowned designer, Karim Rashid.
The Ottawa collection includes a complete dining room set with table, chairs, sideboard and cabinet. All pieces can be customised in a range of colours and materials.
The dining table has the same soft detailing to match the chairs. The table is extendable to easily make room for 14 people. The main features of the Ottawa sideboard are the handles that curve out; becoming a fluid decoration while still being functional. They are easy to grasp and pull open, and the lockers and drawers provide practical storage options.
This is the 22nd time that Karim Rashid has been awarded the Red Dot Award, but the renowned designer does not let that number fool him into complacency, rather he is utterly ecstatic for the recognition, “I am so thrilled about winning the Red Dot award for the Ottawa Collection. I knew it deserved to win an award and it won the most prestigious award in the world! Thanks to a great collaboration with BoConcept, we can help increase the awareness of design in our world and make design a public subject and add a project that is super comfortable, very functional and engaging.”
