The mixed-use development by SAA Architects is the first project in Singapore to replace the green landscape by more than 122 per cent.
May 14th, 2013
Situated in the Jurong Lake District, the 108,168.98sqm mall and office project is not only the largest suburban mixed-use development in Singapore, but also replaces significantly more of the greenery than what is lost to the building’s footprint.

Twenty per cent of the total landscape replacement is derived from the landscaped Active Laneways located between levels 1 and 4 in the 17-storey development. Also known as ‘Jem® Street’, the plants and greenery here have been selected to maximise the number of native species and encourage bio-diversity.

The Cascading Skypark or ‘Jem® Park’ on levels 5, 6 and 7 serves as the building’s ecological and communal heart. Included here are the children’s play spaces, meeting areas, reflection zones, a cafe and an area that focuses on bio-diversity and education.

Within the office building, landscaped Sky Terraces help to minimise heat gain while offering views of the surrounding environment.
The Sky Sanctuary, perched at the top of the office tower, also provides panoramic views of the Jurong Lake District and a variety of landscaped and functional areas for office occupants to enjoy.

Jem® incorporates many other energy efficient features such as regenerative lifts and LED lighting, and it is the first mixed-use development to attain the BCA Green Mark Platinum Award (version 4).
Jem® will open its doors to the public on 29 May.
