The new regional headquarters of Waldmann Lighting in Singapore is a ‘living showroom’ where clients can experience a diverse range of quality lighting solutions up close.
November 6th, 2013
For more than 50 years, German manufacturer Waldmann Lighting has focused on providing high-quality lighting solutions for the architectural, medical and industrial sectors. In 1996, Waldmann Lighting Singapore was established to serve the Asia Pacific markets. And now some eight years on, as a sign of its growing business and presence in the region, the company has opened a new and bigger office in the heart of the Central Business District. Covering 1,600sqft, its new shophouse unit in 20 Cross Street, South Bridge Court has been designed by Siren Design as a ‘place of show’, as opposed to a conventional ‘show-room’. Here, products are not put on display. Rather, they form part of the working studio, thus allowing clients to see how they perform in a real live office setting. “This is a ‘living showroom’,” explains Christian Seiffert, Managing Director of Waldmann Lighting Singapore. “This is [where clients can come] and experience quality, indirect/direct lighting in the workplace. We have an open office, a meeting room, a breakout area – all [of what] you would find in a large corporate office.” Selected areas within the studio are delineated by lowered ceilings and lighting fixtures, which serves to enhance the functionality of the studio as well as showcase the products. One of the main focal points is a collaborative workbench by Herman Miller, which cleverly integrates Waldmann’s lighting products. The meeting room is also fitted out with furniture from
German manufacturer Wilkhahn. “We look at the workspace as a whole when providing lighting planning [for projects], and in most cases this [also] includes consideration of the furniture layout,” says Seiffert. “Our freestanding luminaires work beautifully with system furniture and can also be integrated as desk mounted versions. We are showing some great examples of that in our new office.” Connecting the open workspace, meeting room and pantry is a collaborative gallery space with a large-scale graphic interpretation of one of Waldmann’s signature lighting fixtures. “This is a space where we can come together to discuss ideas… and have a cup of coffee in the morning,” shares Seiffert. The space is warm, inviting, and is designed to promote collaboration. And as the Waldmann Singapore team will readily attest, it’s also a joy to be in. Waldmann Lighting waldmann.com
