Artist Agostino Iacurci creates a giant wall mural on the occasion of Sancal’s 40th birthday.
November 29th, 2013
To mark the 40th anniversary of Spanish furniture company Sancal, Italian artist Agostino Iacurci has taken his creativity to the walls to capture the spirit of the brand.
The mural is produced in the cutting and sewing department of the Sancal factory. It spans 10 metres high and 40 metres wide, symbolising the company’s age. Oversized hands weave a tapestry, depicting the daily tasks of workers. Spools of thread, metres of fabric, patterns and scissors are some of the elements found in this scene, and are made contemporary through the use of colourful synthetic lines.
Due to the enormous dimensions of the characters illustrated by the artist, the spectator has the feeling of being right in front of a heathen altar that honours craftsmanship. The seamstresses working by the mural appear tiny, although they say they feel much more satisfied than overwhelmed by its magnificence.
Iacurci is one of three artists to have been invited by Sancal to create art on walls for its 40th anniversary.
Sancal is carried in Singapore by Dream Interiors.
