Just as iconic films and albums are updated for new audiences, Herman Miller’s iconic Aeron chair has been remastered to adapt to today’s working environments.

What do the offices of James Bond’s boss M, the God character from The Simpsons, and The West Wing TV show have in common? Herman Miller’s Aeron chair.
Designed by Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick, Aeron changed the way people think about office chairs when it debuted in 1994. It was the first ergonomic chair to do away with foam and upholstery, replacing them with a breathable, form-fitting suspension system that adapts to virtually every body and literally keeps you cool.
With over seven million chairs sold in 134 countries, Aeron has become the best-selling and most recognisable chair in the world. It has become a staple of quality workplaces and, as spotted in numerous films and TV shows, it holds a special place in the pop culture lexicon.
Just as iconic films and albums are updated for new audiences, Aeron has been remastered with the latest technology to meet the needs of today’s work, workers and work environments. And Herman Miller did so without compromising the chair’s iconic look.
The remastered Aeron responds to today’s more diverse work environments and a broader range of activities and sitting postures with a re-engineered tilt mechanism, a new adjustable PostureFit SL™ spinal support, and groundbreaking 8Z Pellicle™ zoned suspension. These improved features work in concert to offer easier and more intuitive adjustments; users can fine-tune and customise the chair’s settings to their liking with minimal effort.
The benefits are many. The new Aeron’s slimmer, updated tilt mechanism allows for more seamless movement. The improved PostureFit SL incorporates adjustable sacral and lumbar support that activates a healthful posture while sitting upright. And the new 8Z Pellicle supports the weight of its user through eight varied zones of tension in the seat and back – each zone serves a specific purpose to deliver tailored support to the sitter’s body.
The remastered chair comes with three new material palettes – Graphite (black), Carbon (grey), and Mineral (silvery light grey) – to fit a wider range of modern environments. It is also 1.3 kilograms lighter, includes 39 per cent recycled content, and is up to 91 per cent recyclable, achieving a ‘Cradle to Cradle Certified Silver’ status.
With the new Aeron, Herman Miller reinforces the company’s worldwide leadership in workplace innovation and high-performance seating. Says Chadwick, “The Aeron is going to discover whole new generations of users. It’s really a chair of today and of tomorrow as well.”
Herman Miller is available in Singapore from Xtra.
