International design practice Benoy has announced the appointment of its former Global Director – Commercial and Operations, Tom Cartledge, as Chief Executive Officer.
July 27th, 2016
Tom Cartledge joined Benoy in 2013. With background and experience working with retailers, developers and investors, Cartledge has been active in seeking out new sectors for the firm. For the past three years, he has led the international design practice to reach numerous milestones, such as the establishment of Benoy Melbourne – the firm’s debut on-the-ground presence in Australia. He helped secure new projects in Canada and the United States, extending the firm’s reach in the Americas. In London, Cartledge is working with a leading developer to advise the Architectural Brand Strategy for the Silvertown regeneration in East London.
The recently appointed CEO will soon lead the heritage firm founded in 1947 to its next era of trading. “It’s an incredibly exciting time to be leading a firm of innovative designers and creatives. We are witnessing the rapid evolution of global business with barriers to trade and investment disappearing, new building typologies emerging and consumer needs quickly reshaping our built environment; this has created a dynamic environment for our designers to showcase their talent at the forefront of the industry,” says Cartledge of his appointment.
Also working to shape the firm’s studios worldwide to offer the best platform for its design teams to flourish, Cartledge will drive new initiatives to foster the firm’s collaborative culture and the “import-export of design expertise” across its global network. “I firmly believe in collaboration and am convinced that, as a global team, we will achieve much, not only for Benoy, but also our clients and partners.”
“Benoy will be 70 years old in 2017, and building upon our success, we are proactively and enthusiastically preparing for the next generation. It is my intention to build on what we have realised over the past seven decades and take Benoy forward under a united, shared vision,” he adds.
Founded in 1947, Benoy is an international firm comprising Architects, Masterplanners, Interior and Graphic Designers. Some of its projects in Asia include Elements Mall and Hysan Place, Hong Kong; the future Terminal 4 and Jewel Changi Airport, Singapore; ICC and iAPM, Shanghai; INDIGO and EAST Hotel, Beijing; and Ciputra Artpreneur, Jakarta.
