Twenty of Hong Kong’s design elite will come together at the Triennale di Milano during Milan Design Week 2017 to showcase their creative best for a global audience.
March 30th, 2017
Confluence • 20+ showcases the talents of 20 of Hong Kong’s most innovative designers at the Triennale di Milano during Milan Design Week 2017 as they drive the new discussions on design.
The exhibition features a diverse group of designers, thinkers and entrepreneurs, some born in Hong Kong and others who call it home, but whose work across the board addresses the design sensibilities of a global audience.
Much like the diversity that makes Hong Kong so unique, Confluence • 20+ has a number of themes running through the showcased works as the designers define, express and interpret ‘design’ through a variety of mediums.
Curated by interdisciplinary design expert Amy Chow, Confluence • 20+ is a vibrant expression of the quintessential Hong Kong creative experience across several genres including furniture design, jewellery design, architecture, heritage textiles, fashion, graphic design, lighting design, compact housing and more.
Featured designers include the multifaceted Alan Chan and his inaugural furniture series, the Silkroad collection; furniture designer Samuel Chan with his focus on enduring design and love of wood craft; Lo Kai Yin’s contemporary jewellery collection based on iconic forms of Chinese antiquity; and Lo Chi Wing and his Italian design furniture range.
Confluence • 20+ will also display the artistic works of Stanley Wong, Lo Sing Chin, Lee Chi Wing, Chiu Kwong Chiu, Freeman Lau, Lu Lu Cheung, Otto Tang, Nicol Boyd and Tomas Rosén, Julie Progin and Jesse McLin, Sammy Or, Sharon de Lyster, Elaine Ng, Kingsley Ng, Gary Chang, James Law, and C.L. Lam.
Curator Amy Chow says, “Underpinning the exhibits is an extra value added to everyday objects through revisiting with fresh eyes. Hong Kong designers have raised the bar in bridging the aesthetics of the East and West. They offer a vision that transgresses personal, disciplinary, and social boundaries.”
Organised by the Hong Kong Design Centre, and sponsored by Create Hong Kong of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels, Confluence • 20+ is an accredited event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
