Community over catalogue: how The Collection redefines the way we specify

It probably comes as no surprise that lockdowns have put renovation at the front of many homeowners’ minds. Similarly, we’ve seen hospitality projects push forward and commercial developments come to life. But with motivation and mobility at historic lows, how do we bridge that gap between idea generation and real-life execution?

The Collection’s response is clear: infuse the mindset of a creative industry with the driving force of the service industry. Despite the endless bounds of creativity and craftsmanship, the communication process between designers/manufacturers and consumers/specifiers can often become insular.

Although iconic, renowned brands rightly take their place at the forefront of many minds, time-consuming and often labour-intensive product research are equally essential to creating holistic spaces. Without this understanding, consumers and specifiers can miss out on the opportunity to engage with a diverse range of up-and-coming talent, as well as those designers that didn’t immediately spring to mind.

This is where The Collection comes in. Offering an industry-wide hub, a one-stop destination of information,  and products, The Collection gives consumers and specifiers the freedom to explore a range of products from a significant variety of suppliers and designers. All this is backed by the knowledge that Indesign Media appreciates and recognises the quality and value of these products and brands.

A case study of residential development and improvement is particularly apt here. First, let’s take a look at the state of demand within the Australian residential design industry.

Australians are spending at record highs for home improvements – in May 2021, we were looking at an expenditure of AUD$1 billion each month.[1]

Of particular note, we’ve seen the motives for these home improvements become clearer. Thirty-nine per cent of Baby Boomers and 30 per cent of Millennials planning to renovate their home listed the fact that they ‘finally had the time’ to undertake renovations as a key factor in initiating these home improvements.[2]

This makes it the perfect time for The Collection to truly come into force.

With the creativity and dynamism of the design industry self-evident, The Collection is uniquely placed to deliver information in an engaging way that bridges the gap between ideas and execution.

Drawing from elements of the service industry, the Collection is much more than just a catalogue – it is meticulously curated, up-to-date and expansive, encouraging meaningful connections across the industry and consumers.
