On 26 October in 2017, some of our best architects, builders, developers, designers, specifiers and more gathered in Sydney to celebrate sustainability and those who promote it.

Last year, many of those attending made generous and positive comments about everything from the food to the speeches to the people and projects.

To say that the 2017 Sustainability Awards were a tremendous success would be an understatement.

In fact, after the esteemed judging panel whittled down the shortlist of 45 finalists to 12 winners, there were many comments from the invited guests about how worthy all the winners were.

This year, the 2018 Sustainability Awards are set to take one step forward on last year, with a couple of pivotal enhancements.

Firstly, there are three extra categories this year – Smart Buildings, Green Building of the Year and Emerging Architect of the Year – all of which are set to add an extra dimension to this years’ Gala Night.

Secondly, the judging in 2018 was more rigorous and more discriminating than it was in 2017.

Then there is our choice of MC for the night.

When it comes to industry legends, it’s hard to go past the likes of Tone Wheeler. Known for his acerbic wit and unmatched industry knowledge, Wheeler will be the ‘Captain of the Ship’ for the night, guiding the winners and runners-up through the choppy waters of award’s nominations.

Perhaps the most obvious change to the Sustainability Awards is their location.

For almost 10 years, the awards Gala Night was held at Doltone House, however due to the expansion of our awards and the sheer massive uptake in interest, this year we have taken what is a quantum leap in terms of venues which will see the 2018 Sustainability Awards being held at The Star, perhaps Sydney’s premier venue for such industry events.

So all in all, the 2018 Sustainability Awards are set to really change the nature of what it means to celebrate and reward built industry sustainability.

In other words, it’s an industry event that is not to be missed out.

As Australia’s longest running and most prestigious awards program dedicated to acknowledging and celebrating excellence in sustainable design and architecture, it simply is a night not to be missed
