Tasmania welcomes the state’s first government architect

Peter Poulet has been announced as Tasmania’s first government architect after many years of lobbying by the Australian Institute of Architects.

“The state architect will help ensure good design outcomes for all major public and private projects in Tasmania, notably the Hobart waterfront,” says AIA Tasmanian President, Richard Crawford.

Western Australia has also announced that Steve Woodland is the state’s new government architect – a position created in 2003.

“By appointing a government architect of the calibre of Steve Woodland, the WA Government is continuing to provide opportunities to encourage high architectural design standards and ultimately enhance architecture in Western Australia,” said Rod Mollett – AIA WA Chapter President.

The Institute continues to lobby for government architects in South Australia, the territories and at Commonwealth level.
