Craig Spencer springs onto Sydney’s hospitality interior scene
April 29th, 2008
Sydney based interior designer Craig Spencer’s latest design project displays a sense of what is fast becoming his sophisticated signature style.
Spring, a hole-in-the-wall espresso bar in Potts Point- at the Parisian end of Maclaey Street- has been a popular pocket-sized establishment on the Sydney café scene for over 10 years.
In a bold move, Craig replaced the white interior of old with a dramatic combination of Deep Onyx, black glass, dark fabric panelled walls and modish furniture.
The outcome is a striking yet simple and beautifully composed space. The unconventional use of black glass in such a small space works to surprising effect to enhance the size.
“The project presented a different sort of challenge, to express creativity within the confines of such a small space,” says Spencer.
“I wanted to create something dramatic and a total contrast to the previous interior and surrounding cafes, yet something that had real appeal to the chi-chi set and elitist espresso drinkers.
